Peace which surpasses all comprehension

I was reading a verse that says:

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.”

I asked the Lord “What does Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near means?”

Then I remembered the ordeal my husband went through earlier this morning. He received a letter from CRA stating he owes them 2,340 dollars. That’s like 91 thousand in pesos, and that’s because his status changed from single to married. My husband had been calling the government saying I didn’t earn money in Canada in 2016-2018 and that I came here on December 2018. He had been giving the same information over and over again. I heard him say on the phone “Everytime I call I’ve been talking to different agents, they were all nice, but I’ve given different information, and everytime you recalculated the money you say I owe is getting bigger, please don’t take it personally, but I just don’t understand. We’ve done all the things you told us to do, my wife filed her taxes even if she didn’t work in Canada for 2016-2018”. The agent then told him that she will file a case for recalculation and that he has to wait until January. My husband was calm but I can sense his frustration.

Now the verse said “Rejoice in the Lord always”. It doesn’t make sense, does it? How can you be gentle and how can you rejoice if you are being told to pay 2,340 dollars which you think you don’t deserve? but then the verse goes on:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Now, I am thankful to have come across this verse today because God gave me comfort and confirmation. We called CRA and we were asked to wait. Obviously, it’s out of our hands. We can be frustrated, anxious, but still it cannot change the situation. In these times when we are not in control of the things that’s happening in our lives, we need to be reminded that we can always pray and depend on God. And it’s true we have peace in our hearts after we prayed today because we believe that God will take care of the situation. It makes a big difference. And I know it sounds silly, but yes, I rejoice because despite trials and difficulties He lifts our spirit and gives us joy and peace through His words.

That’s what I hope also for my friends and family. I don’t know what you’re going through right now, I don’t know how difficult is the situation you are in, but let me encourage you today. The Lord is near, He will listen. May God’s peace which surpasses all comprehension be with you.
